Why have a trainer?

Posted on January 5th, 2016 to Barefoot Training

As an already motivated gym goer, I have always been reluctant to have a trainer. Why would I need a trainer if I have been working out for so long and seeing results on my own?

Part of the reason why I enjoy working out so much is that you are always competing with yourself and striving to do better. That being said, the best athletes and business people in the world have coaches and mentors, so why should I be opposed to it?

Yes, cost was definitely a concern of mine however I figured that my investment with a trainer would do three things. It would give me more direction in my training, make me move and feel better (something that is priceless), and would keep me honest/conscious of my spending habits. If I was going to invest in a trainer each month, then I should be paying attention to my spending elsewhere so that I can afford to continue the program.

Over the past two months, I’ve had the pleasure of training with Tony Gentilcore here in Boston and it has been a blast. Each week I look forward to our training session and have to say it’s been a great investment thus far. In my effort to be more receptive to learning this year (see last blog post), I believe this is definitely a step in the right direction.

Investing in someone that can guide me will inevitably provide a ton of information and feedback. After all, maybe that’s why I enjoy our session so much…
