Who we are

Michael Lyon- Co-Savage

Grew up in Ipswich, MA and went on to attend New Hampton School. A boarding school in New Hampshire (no I did not abuse hardcore drugs and I believe my family still loves me).

You can say that my body has gone through crazy transformations over the years. When I was 13 years old I stood 5’7 and weighed 198lbs. In the summer and through the first couple weeks of the football season I was down to 133lbs.

After growing about 7 inches and battling a serious back injury, I was looking quite lanky. This was when my older brother (Jon) introduced me to the weight room. He had gained a reputation as the campus strongman by pulling the school's coach bus and bending barbells in the weight room. In order to put on some size, Jon and I would routinely do deadlifts, squats and military presses. In each movement we had our shoes off and to this day that's the only way I train.
Our mother was extremely sick at the time and went on to pass my senior year, however the weight room became a sanctuary for us. A place to relieve stress, compete, bond as brothers, and forget whatever was happening outside.
Pedestal was born when I realized I was just dragging my shoes around with me from station to station and wearing ordinary socks in the gym. Others were doing the same, so I wanted to create a sock so bad ass that it could essentially be called a piece of equipment. Our mission would be to move people from traditional training shoes and into Pedestals to reap the benefits of barefoot training.

Small Town South Shore Massachusetts Kid. Grew up as a Pirate (Hull, MA), became a Seawolf (Tabor Academy), had a small stint in the wilderness (Deerfield Academy), was knighted as a Lord Jeff (Amherst College), and finished my career as a Danube Dragon (AFL). I love to explore, create, learn, and improve.
I am an aging competitive athlete (Marcelo Garcia BJJ NYC) that has been fortunate enough to train with some of the best minds in strength and conditioning, MMA, and BJJ. I've learned first-hand the importance of the body staying connected both internally and externally.
Pedestal Footwear is the culmination of decades of self-trial and error and has quickly proven to be one of the best tools for minimalist training on the market today. Free your feet, build your base, be more powerful and go raw."
