    NBA Strength Coach Workout

Earlier this month, the Celtics played the Cavaliers here in Boston and I had a chance to workout and talk shop with the Cavaliers strength coaches Derek Millender and Alex Moore.

For those of you who are unaware, the life of an NBA strength coach is a fascinating opportunity. That being said, there are many parts of the job that only a certain type of person can handle. These include the extremely hectic travel schedule, no sleep, being on call 24/7, and lugging bags all around the country.

After getting into Boston at 3am and barely sleeping with another game to play that night, I was grateful and impressed that they were able to meet me for a lunch time crush session.

Before I share our workout, you may be thinking that we did some new nerdy exercise that these guys sat down and made up. For both Derek and Alex, there is no ego when it comes to training and their biggest objective is hammering the basics (squat, hinge, push, pull, carry) over and over again.

Here is what we did in our Pedestals. Give it a shot and let us know what you think.

    -Rowing Machine - low intensity

    -Dynamic warm up

    A1) Deadlift - 5 x 5 with increased weight each set

    A2) Pull-Up - Bodyweight - 5 x 10 - Changing grip each set.

*Side note - That alone was a killer and would be a great workout if you were in a crunch for time.

    B1) KB Swing - 3 x 8

B2) KB Single Leg Deadlift (same side) - 3 x 8 each leg

    B3) One arm KB Shoulder Press - 3 x 10/12

    C1) High Box Step Ups - 3 x 10 each leg

    C2) Adductor - 3 x 15

    C3) Abductor - 3 x 15

C4) Dips - Bodyweight - 25 reps (rest pause if needed. Do in as little sets as possible)

Pictured below is Derek rocking the 2.5's on the left and Alex with the throwback 1.0's on the right.

    Much Love,

The Glute Guy Smashes in his Pedestals

Dr. Bret Contreras has created a surge in glute training across the strength and conditioning community and is responsible for some of the best bums out there.

We had the pleasure of crushing weights with him at the 2016 Fitness Summit and hear him speak about posterior chain training. He throws serious weight around with awesome technique and we are big fans of his work.

Bret was kind enough to share his experience with Pedestal with us:

"I prefer to deadlift barefoot, but I don't like dirtying up my feet or quickly ruining my socks. Enter Pedestals - they're perfect for the job. They're durable, and they can be worn during warm-ups, deadlifts, jumping, or the entire training session for that matter. I support Pedastal Footwear's mission.

    Bret Contreras PhD, CSCS"

Thank you for visiting and Keep Crushing!

    In good health,

Back Bay Health Loves Their Pedestals

(Pictured: Chi with the thumbs up, in the center Craig Liebenson, and Laura & Tim to the right from Back Bay Health)

Back Bay Health is a leading Performance and Physical Therapy center here in Boston. BBH is lead by Tim and his wife Laura and they are always seeking ways to help their patients feel and function better.

They recently attended a seminar with Craig Liebenson at Clientel 3 and Pedestals were the preferred footwear among the presenters and attendees.

Tim was kind enough to share a few words about why he enjoys working and training in his Pedestals:

"I work in a private physical rehabilitation office where I need to dress semi-formally but also remain active. The Pedestal 2.0’s are great because they look sharp, they help grip the hardwood floors when demonstrating barefoot exercises and they don’t end up smelling rank at the end of the day. So it’s a win for me and a win for the patients."

Thank you all for reading. Your support is always greatly appreciated.

    Keep Building Your Base!

    In good health,

    The Pedestal Guys

(v-necks are a must when you don't have a neck...)

We are approaching our first full-year of being online and what an epic year it's been.

The quality of people we now have the privilege of calling friends, partners, and customers still tugs at the heart strings when I take a second to think about it.

There is something special about the wellness community, particularly the one we now belong to. Their sense of purpose, selflessness, and commitment to others, are qualities that are becoming harder and harder to find.

The other qualities that make this group so special and perhaps most notable is their humor, vulnerability, and willingness to call bull-sh**. They speak about their personal experiences as coaches and as athletes from the heart with an unwavering sensibility.

It is a beautiful thing to know that this group of experts are always acting in the best interest of those whom they reach and work with. We like to consider what we do at Pedestal in the same scope as said experts.

Our goal is to provide the highest quality locally sourced product with the intention of improving the overall health and wellness of anyone who puts a pair on. We know people have recognized this mission and have committed their time and resources to supporting us, and for this, we will always be grateful.

That said, much like the customers and coaches whom support us, we consistently work towards improving our product and how we do business. We know that our incremental progress is a culmination of the day to day communication and interaction between ourselves and our community.

Pedestal is a reflection of the coaches, athletes, and customers we work with, and we wouldn't have it any other way.

Thank you for making us better and for always crushing.

    Hugs & Deadlifts,
