    It's all in the hips

    It's all in the hips

    Education is a continuous process and both Brendan and I are lucky to be surrounded by some of the most knowledgable fitness professionals in the industry. 

    Last Sunday, we were invited to attend and sponsor a Hip Hinge workshop put together by our friends Matthew Ibrahim and Zak Gabor of Boston PT and Wellness. 

    We wanted to share 5 interesting points and takeaways with you...

    1. 80% of population has lower back injury in life span.

    2. Over 80 billion dollars spent on low back health care each year.

    3. Gluteus muscles run horizontally. Keep this in mind during any hip hinge movement. 

    4. "Knees out" when hinging. Helps maintain neutral spine.  

    5. Quality of movement precedes strength and resilience.

    Hip hinging is a big part of our everyday life and teaching your body the correct movement pattern is crucial in mitigating injury. 

    Matt explained this best when he said, "Think of a 5 gallon bucket. Each drop in the bucket correlates to an improper hinge movement. Over time, the bucket eventually fills up and spills over. That overflow point is the reason why people blow their back out on some of the most simple tasks like picking up the laundry or loading the dish washer."

    We hope we can help you be part of the 20% of the population that is not riddled by lower back injury.
