Footwork Makes The Dream Work

Footwork Makes The Dream Work
Good Morning Folks!

Since embarking on this minimal footwear journey, I've always looked for ways to improve balance through my training.

It began with single leg work which mostly consisted of walking lunges, split squats, and rear foot elevated lunges, all of which are still awesome. Once Jiu Jitsu became my focus I started to apply my mat movements to the gym and man was it helpful.

I would make sure that each type of lunge or hip bridge movement was paired with a press or pull. For example, a set of single leg hip bridges was performed with a kettlebell press which mimicked a sort of bottom escape in Jiu Jitsu. The more I staggered my stance for certain lifts, the more my balance improved on and off the mats.

I've always appreciated Jarrod Cardona aka @thecrazytrainer and his ability to make exercise fun. His recent OLE' IG video can be seen HERE and I love the foot work he demonstrates.

Whether you've been training for decades or are just starting out, it's important to mix up your footwork and above all HAVE FUN!

Much Love,

Brendan
